CONTEMPORARY ABSTRACT ART newsletter
New work, offers and latest news by Jean Dayton 3200108
I am already turning my thoughts to springtime and dare I even say, the warmer months - I have some Summer Beach Scenes now available to buy on my website - There are 3 in this series so far and I am sure there will be more as they really are very addictive to paint and conjur up many happy childhood memories for me. They are all oil on canvas paintings size 14” x 10”, each depicting children playing on the beach, making sand castles and flying kites.
These images are very light, very sunny and evoke a feeling of Summers Past, of Cornish Holidays as a child running along barefoot on the beach by the surf, making sand castles, forming new friendships, fishing in rock pools and just being happy & free. Although painted on a boxed canvas with painted sides, these paintings would also look great framed in a more traditional frame.
Just click on the image to view more details about each painting.

• Royal Yacht Hotel in St Helier, Jersey
It’s been a positive journey from start to finish for me and I am pleased to say that finally the 2 seascape commissions I started at the end of 2007 are now in their new home in the Reception Foyer at the recently refurbished luxury hotel & spa the Royal Yacht Hotel Jersey. The largest painting measuring 2m x 1.2m took up most of my studio, however, it was very liberating to work with such large canvases on a subject that I am so passionate about - the sea! Based on the Fastnet range of abstract seascapes from 2007 this range has proved to be my most popular to date. to view the paintings click here
Mentoring
• Student Studying ‘A’ Level in Fine Art
In June 2007 I was contacted by a student from New College Telford in her 2nd year of A Level Fine Art. As part of her 2nd year Hayley was required to do an intensive study of an artist’s work she admired. Hayley found my work on the internet and contacted me. Like me, Hayley has a passion for bright bold colours and flowers and was very drawn to several of my floral designs. I was thrilled to be asked by Hayley to be part of her project and since then we have been in regular contact, with lots of questions being asked about my art process & discussions about her project. It’s been a great experience and I really wish Hayley all the best in her project and for the future. I just wanted to share some of her work/sketches with you which are of her floral studies and I think you’ll agree are beautiful; I particularly love the depth & tone achieved in the black/white studies.

Happy New Year
I hope that a peaceful and happy Christmas was enjoyed by everyone. I was so ready to get down to some painting again after nearly 2 weeks of doing nothing over the holidays, that from the start of January I have been busy painting commissions as well as producing some more paintings for sale on my website. Already nature is providing inspiration for me and I’m formulating some ideas for new abstract and floral designs. I have been doing a lot of walking lately and the stillness that I find when walking through the forest is amazing - its almost like time has stood still as its so quiet. Walking the same walks in different seasons inspires me too, as nothing stays the same, a bit like the work of an artist - forever changing, forever flowing.......In this newsletter I have some great offers with a clearance sale too so if you’ve had your eye on a piece of artwork for a while be sure to visit my website as it may just be in the sale!
