• Wrap up Warm for Winter : Winter Landscapes
I have always had a fascination with snow and would dearly love to experience a little more, however where i live, in the South of England, we tend not to get much....I think we had a few days last Winter when I was able to get out for a few lovelywalks in the forest feeling the crispness of the snow under my feet. I have been told that alpine skiing is an exhilerating sport, that cutting through light pristine powder snow is an amazing experience and is often described as feeling like you’re floating on clouds - if you like skiing you might enjoy my painting ‘The Ski’ (opposite). So all of my winter landscapes are painted with a great deal of pleasure as I am painting them, so I hope, you too, feel the energy I have put into them.

Abstract Seascapes

“Being within nature is extremely important to me. I have realised that to enable me to really get into the depth and feeling of a painting, I need to experience how I feel when I’m within nature. I very often go for long walks on my own along the coast where I receive great inspiration from the intensity of the sea. I love observing how the sun plays with the sea creating a blanket of diamonds on the surface and how the wind whips up the waves as they crash to the shore, I just stand there taking it all in, the power and energy of the sea. I seem to be able to capture this essence and transpose this onto the canvas.”

Inspiration from the Great Artists
Winter Wonder

Our thoughts are turning to Christmas and the winter months ahead. I love this time of year as it has something truly magical to offer... The leaves on the trees have nearly all fallen now leaving a beautiful soft golden carpet for us to tread. There is an excited expectancy of what is around the corner and a gathering of our thoughts as we venture into the winter realms of nature.

If you are thinking of buying a special gift for someone this Christmas then now could be the time to take a look at my new collection of landscape paintings - I took my inspiration from snowy Alpine mountains and Tuscan valleys. Paintings such as ‘Snow Trek’ or ‘The Ski’ will appeal to the ski enthusiasts. I am also busy working on my new abstract collection which will be ready towards the end of November - a collection of vibrant abstracts with an emphasis on capturing the flow within nature.

Wonderous Mother Nature
“An artist must possess Nature. He must identify himself with her rhythm, by efforts that will prepare the mastery which will later enable him to express himself in his own language ” Henri Matisse

• Dreaming of an idyllic Farmhouse in Tuscany
Another addition to my Landscape Collection is my Scenes of Tuscany, as seen below, all can be viewed on my website at www.jeangdayton.com/landscapes.html - Again, Italy holds a special place in my heart, having visited Italy a few times, I would love to one day own a rambling farmhouse in the countryside - I guess it's every artist's dream, to gain great inspiration looking out over the tuscan valleys, seeing the beautiful mix of colours ranging from rich terracotta to yellow ochre, a pure delight.

Art Quote

“Painting is the most beautiful of all arts. In it, all sensations are condensed; contemplating it, everyone can create a story at the will of his imagination and.. with a single glance.. have his soul invaded by the most profound recollections; no effort of memory, everything is summed up in one instant. A complete art which sums up all the others and completes them.”

Monet

One of my favourite artists is Claude Monet. I was very fortunate to visit the MOMA in New York this year where I saw up close his amazing painting ‘Collections of Clouds on a Water-Lily Pond’, truly inspirational. Here are some of Monet’s winter scenes, in particular I love ‘Lavacourt under Snow’; this one really gives the observer the sense of a crisp chill in the air on a cold winters morning...brrrrrrrrrr

Lavacourt lies across the Seine from Vétheuil, where Monet settled in 1878. This simple composition, showing dilapidated cottages on the river bank, allows the artist to concentrate on the play of light on snow.
